Yes, you read that right. We consider you the expert that will be assisting us with learning and understanding your business. You know your business better than we do, and because of that it makes sense – to us at least – to bring you in on our process as the subject matter expert.
We approach design strategy as a team partnership or collaboration. Don’t freak out, we won’t make you design anything or expect you to develop something. All we need is your expertise in your field.
With our expert (you) onboard the team, our next step is simply to have a conversation about your business. Think of us as professional listeners and facilitators.
In our experience, the best way to understand what you need most is simply by having an enjoyable conversation and truly listening.
Through this exercise, we’ll be able take your need or desire (for example: a website, a logo, or an increase in sales) and dive deep into the underlying reasoning of that need or desire. This will provide us with the insight that we need to get started.
We’ll probably hang out on this step for awhile. We don’t want to rush this; we want to uncover as much as we can - everything from a business problem that may need solving to uncovering who your customers really are. The more productive we are on this step, the easier the others are.
Once we feel that we’ve discovered what needs to be solved or accomplished, we’ll slow down and clarify what we have found. We want to be sure that you (the expert) and we (the listeners) are in the same book and on the same page.
We’ll create some problem statements that are clear and concise to ensure that we are capturing everything we discovered, and then map out goals based on our discovery session. Bottom line: we want to ensure that you (the expert) and we (the listeners) are aligned.
We know that everyone may not have a massive budget to get everything that they want. If you’re someone who does have a massive budget, great! This exercise will be super easy.
For those who are on a leaner budget, what we’ll do in this exercise is discuss your budget constraints. We will then use that information to prioritize the highest ROI (return on your investment) item to your budget.
We don’t want to waste your hard earn money on a project (logo, social media campaign, etc.) if we don’t think you’ll get the most out of your investment.
The wonderful thing about prioritizing is that if we determine that 3 projects will positively impact your business, we can tackle them one at a time as your budget allows.
We’ll also discuss the time frame of delivery for each project to ensure that we are all clear on every expectation of the project.
Ok, the time has come. This step is rather easy for you (our expert). Once we’ve gone through the steps 1 through 4, we’ll go back to our workshop and start working on everything we discussed as a team.
Because you (our subject matter expert) have been with us throughout our entire process, there shouldn’t be any surprises here. Sit back, relax, and focus on your business operations as we work on your projects.
We’ve already discussed time frames in the previous step, and, we’ll be working hard to deliver each project as exactly as discussed.
